"It's from Elsie Weerts, Mrs Kossman very old recipe. I've baked this and it has a nice crumb, it has a thick batter but it rises like crazy"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cream lard and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla,,salt and milk (I add vinegar or lemon juice to milk, it activates baking soda about teaspoon).

Step 2

Sift flour once, then measure.

Step 3

Last, all dry ingredients and sift together.

Step 4

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients

Step 5

Bake 350 degrees 30 minutes.

Thank you for sharing your lovely recipe dienia. I don't know what I did wrong but unfortunately I had a little difficulty with it. The cake took a lot longer to cook, resulting in a dry cake. The chocolate flavor was subtle and improved over night. Frosted with a nice french vanilla buttercream and garnished with a little bit of cake crumb that stuck to pan. I will definitely try this again. Made for Autumn Fever - 2019.
