Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.
Step 2
Oil jelly roll pan.
Step 3
Whisk flour, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl.
Step 4
Add shortening and blend well.
Step 5
Add baking soda to buttermilk in large bowl, it's going to foam up
Step 6
Mix and then add to flour mixture.
Step 7
Blend thoroughly.
Step 8
Place dough on floured surface (it's going to be sticky) and sprinkle with additional flour.
Step 9
Do not overwork dough.
Step 10
Roll out 1/2 inch thick.
Step 11
Cut with 2 inch biscuit cutter.
Step 12
Dip biscuits in oil to over all sides and place immediately on oiled baking sheet with all biscuits touching.
Step 13
Bake at 500 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until browned.
