"This is a simple recipe but big on flavor and it even tastes better if left in the fridge a few hours to blend the flavors so I suggest to do that --- it's wonderful with a slice of tomato on top of the tuna and served between two thick slices of toasted whole grain bread or in a pita bread or served on a plate on top of a bed of lettuce, I sometimes add in some chopped small sweet gherkin pickles or yum yum pickles also, feel free to add in some cooked macaroni pasta and serve on a plate, only fresh lemon juice for this bottled will not be as good. I have left the mustard powder and Tabasco as optional I most always add it in it takes this salad to another level. Servings are 2-3 sandwiches"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Drain the tuna then hand-squeeze out any excess moisture; place in a bowl then flake with a fork. Add in all remaining ingredients up to the Tabasco sauce; mix until well combined, adjusting all seasonings to suit taste.

Step 2

Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours (more is even better!). Divide onto toasted or untoasted bread slices with lettuce leaves and tomato slices.

We really enjoyed this. For years our old recipe was canned tuna with chopped celery, onion and mayo. Game changer with this recipe and method? Hand squeezing the canned tuna after strainer draining (a tight paper towel squeeze), addition of lemon pepper seasoning, a lemon juice squeeze or 3. I had no choice but bottled from the little store bought plastic lemon container), dry mustard, and a few drops of tabasco. A bit of dill or sweet relish we tried both maybe (once) but we personally prefer without - we tried! Previously, our tuna salad was a bit gloppy. Not so with this. I didn't add any garlic, but may try next time. We have added at times a Tbsp or 2 of creamy horseradish from time to time as we love the subtle flavour. The squeezing of albacore canned tuna in water, addition of lemon pepper, dry mustard was really nice. Definitely changed my way of assembling tuna salad for a brighter, fresher tasting lunch or cold plate choice. Best chilled for a couple of hours, but don't hesitate to throw together if needed asap, as it will still be a winner. Recipes are great reviewed when made closely as written first along with tasting as you go! Glad we did with this one. It's changed my tuna salad for the better!

As always Kitten, another keeper! Only thing I did different is I like chopped hard boiled eggs in mine and I use dill relish, just a personal preference. Other than that, the touch of mustard is the only difference than my old recipe :)

Hubby loves tuna, and this is his favorite tuna salad sandwich. He says the pepper and the mustard really add to the flavor. I use my zucchini relish, and to be honest, by the time I finish putting this together, I am even tempted, although I'm not a tuna eater.
