"Found this in taste of home first 10 years cookbook but I revised to make gluten free recipe stated that it won 4-H fair and won blue ribbon. It was a recipe her grandmother keep constantly in cookie jar."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
In large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
Step 2
Beat in the egg and molasses
Step 3
Combine in seperate bowl: flour, baking soda, xantham gum, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
Step 4
Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls. Dip one side of each ball into sugar. place sugar side up on greased baking sheet.
Step 5
Bake 350 10-15 minutes
