Step by Step Method

Step 1

Brown beef cubes on all sides in hot fat.

Step 2

Add chopped onion and saute a few minutes.

Step 3

Pour in boiling water, season with salt and pepper, cover and braise gently until done (1.5 to 2 hours). If using, add the tomato puree in this step. Add mushroom during last 15 minutes of braising.

Step 4

Season to taste with paprika and salt, then thicken with corn starch blended with the cold water.

Step 5

If using, add sour cream and stir until thoroughly mixed in and hot.

This is delicious...I used both options...the tomato puree and the sour cream...gave it a nice rich flavor...served it over spaetzle. Made for "Pick Me" tag game.
