Step 1

In a large nonstick skillet heat oil over medium-high. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute, being careful not to burn.

Step 2

Add orzo and rice; cook 4-6 minutes longer or until lightly browned.

Step 3

Stir in broth and water.

Step 4

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. (Add more water as needed if rice and pasta are not done before liquid is absorbed).

Stir in the onions, basil, parsley and salt.

Step 6

Serve. Sprinkle some grated Parmesan on top if desired.

excellent! The only change I made was to add a saute'd shallot. Thanks for sharing

Fabulous recipe. I followed the recipe except for cooking the onions for a couple of minutes in the rice before adding the other herbs, and using a sweet beer instead of broth. Would go with just about anything!

This recipe makes for a great side. We enjoyed it with our fish. I added extra garlic because I'm a garlic lover and love the taste of the addition of the last minute herbs as it enhances this dish. Thank you Mikekey for sharing.

This rice dish is amazing, nice basil flavour throughout the rice. I misread the recipe and added the basil onion and salt to the rice and pasta while it was cooking but it turned out perfectly. I also used rice pasta instead of the orzo due to a food allergy. Thx for sharing this recipe here.
