Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place the strawberries, sugar, and water in a large, heavy bottomed pot over high heat. Let the mixture cook, stirring frequently, until a lot of liquid has been released, the strawberries begin to soften, and the liquid starts to bubble (about 10-15 minutes).

Step 2

Strain the strawberries, place them in a bowl, and put the liquid back into the pot. Continue to cook the liquid, without the berries, until it has reduced to a thick syrup.

Step 3

Add the strawberries back to the pot, cook for a few minutes more, and then remove from heat and pour into a clean bowl. Allow mixture to cool completely as it sets up and cools.

Step 4

Transfer to clean glass jars. Cover then refrigerate.

  • Choose fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of the strawberries and your desired sweetness level.

  • Replace the strawberries with raspberries for a sweeter flavor. The benefit of this substitution is that raspberries have a naturally sweeter taste than strawberries, so the jam will not require as much sugar.
  • Replace the sugar with honey for a healthier alternative. The benefit of this substitution is that honey is a healthier sweetener than sugar, and it will give the jam a unique flavor.
