Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375-degrees F. (I dunno, but I think I would set the oven at 350. 375-degrees seems too high).

Step 2

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs and molasses. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add nuts, coconut and raisins. Bake for 15 minutes.

Mia in Germany

I LOVED these!!! Due to lack of molasses here, I used date syrup which is much sweeter than molasses. So I used less sugar (or rather erythritol) and it was still sweet enough. On the whole, I halved the recipe because I want to try another half batch with sugar beet syrup until I can find molasses LOL To make it gluten free, I used a mix of gf oatflour and potato starch, for the nuts I used chopped pecans. No raisins, though. And since there is no such thing as shortening in Germany, I used good ol' butter. I used the convection function of my oven at 180°C (350°F) and baked them for exactly 10 minutes. That was perfect. It might translate to a slightly higher temp. in a conventional oven but even then I would check if they're done after 10 minutes. Thank you so much for this delicious recipe! Made for FYC game.
