Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine water and agar agar in a medium saucepan and heat over low until agar agar is completely dissolved.

Step 2

Add sugar and stir until dissolved and mixture is frothy and slightly stringy

Step 3

Remove from heat and add flavoring

Step 4

Pour the mixture into a tray (I like to use a caserole dish)

Step 5

You can use food coloring to tint the whole batch, or use a tooth pick to swirl drops of coloring though the mixture

Step 6

Chill mixture in the fridge until it has set, like firm jello

Step 7

Remove from tray and cut or tear into smaller pieces

Step 8

Let the pieces sit in an undisturbed area for three to five days to crystalize
