"This is a really old recipe and I don't know how old it is. I changed a couple things to modernize it so it would pass muster to be accepted for this site. It's just a basic recipe that's nice to have for when you need a meal and don't have money or gas to go get a bunch of stuff, which happens a lot out here in South Dakota. Serve it with some fruit and frozen vegetables and it will stretch."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place onions and hamburger in a large skillet. Cook until hamburger is browned and onion is translucent.

Step 2

Add the cabbage and cook it until it is tender.

Step 3

Add the rest of the ingredients.

Step 4

Simmer gently on low for 10 more minutes.

Old fashioned comfort food. I added some garlic because I tend to add garlic to everything. My son thought the celery seeds were too strong, but he was the first one up packing this up for leftovers the next morning. So I'd say he gives it a 5 star review too. Thanks for sharing!

This is really good -- and easy too. Instead of steak sauce I used catsup but otherwise made as directed. Served with tossed salad, bread and fruit. Simple but good! Thanks for sharing!
