Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F
Step 2
Mix the flour salt and cream of tartar together
Step 3
Cut in shortening
Step 4
Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda into about 3/4 cup of warm water.

Stir and add to the dry ingredients to make a dough.

If more water is needed, add a little at a time until the dough is the right consistency.
Step 7
Pat out on floured board and cut out
Step 8
Heat bacon grease in a skillet
Step 9
Place cut out biscuits in skillet
Step 10
Bake these biscuits at 450 for 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned.
