"Sometimes it's a part of a recipe that intrigues me & makes my mind race w/its potential uses. That was the case w/this tiny "partial" recipe by Jamie Oliver. It was his take on a topping for panna cotta, but I was having visual fantasies of my own. I saw it drizzled over vanilla ice cream or pound cakes, rice or bread pudding, pancakes or waffles for a fancy brunch touch, etc. Need I go on? ENJOY!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine the ingredients in a sml saucepan over med heat. Bring to a slow boil, then reduce heat to low & cook for 10-12 min until thickened. Test by placing a sml amt on a chilled plate – If it thickens, it’s ready. Cool before use as your fantasies dictate.

Step 2

NOTE #1: Frankly, estimating the # of servings is a little problematic. JO said 6 when he applied it to his panna cotta, so I went w/that. BUT I'd expect the yield to be more servings & largely a reflection of individual usage.

Step 3

NOTE #2: When making my choices in the "DIET" section, 3 options were not enough. I opted to ck No Eggs & Non-Dairy, but this recipe is LOW just about everything so ck the Nutritional Data if that's relevant to you.

  • When choosing the liqueur, make sure to pick one that you like the flavor of, as it will be a prominent flavor in the recipe.
  • If you prefer decaffeinated coffee, you can substitute decaf espresso or strong decaf coffee for the espresso.

  • Replace the espresso with brewed strong black tea: This substitution is beneficial for those who don't enjoy the flavor of coffee, but still want to enjoy the syrup. It is also a great way to add a unique flavor to the syrup.
  • Replace the Amaretto liqueur with almond extract: This substitution is beneficial for those who don't want to use alcohol in the recipe. The almond extract will provide a similar flavor to the Amaretto liqueur, but without the alcohol.

Coffee & Chocolate Syrup Combine the espresso, sugar, and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a slow boil, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-12 minutes until thickened. Test by placing a small amount on a chilled plate – If it thickens, it’s ready. Cool before use as your fantasies dictate.

Vanilla Pound Cake with Coffee & Amaretto Syrup: This classic pound cake is elevated with a sweet and boozy syrup made from coffee and amaretto. The syrup is perfect for drizzling on top of the cake, giving it a unique and delicious flavor. The combination of the coffee and amaretto syrup with the pound cake makes for a perfect dessert.

Mascarpone Mousse with Fresh Berries: This light and creamy dessert is the perfect accompaniment to the rich and flavorful pound cake. The mascarpone mousse is made with cream cheese, mascarpone, and sugar, and is topped with fresh berries for a burst of flavor. The combination of the sweet and tart berries with the creamy mousse is a delicious contrast to the pound cake and the coffee and amaretto syrup.
