Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degree F

Step 2

Set aside 2 tablespoons of the butter

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl beat the remaining butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds.

Step 4

Add brown sugar and soda and beat until well mixed.

Step 5

Beat in eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

Step 6

Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer and stir in the remaining flour and the oats with a mixing spoon

Step 7

In a medium saucepan combine the reserved butter, condensed milk, and chocolate pieces.

Step 8

Cook over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally.

Step 9

Remove from heat and stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

Step 10

Press two-thirds of the oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.

Step 11

Spread chocolate mixture over the oat mixture. Dot remaining oat mixture over the chocolate.

Step 12

Bake about 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned

Step 13

Cool on a wire rack.

Step 14

Cut into bars.
