Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degree F
Step 2: Set aside 2 tablespoons of the butter
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl beat the remaining butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Add brown sugar and soda and beat until well mixed.
Step 5: Beat in eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
Step 6: Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer and stir in the remaining flour and the oats with a mixing spoon
Step 7: In a medium saucepan combine the reserved butter, condensed milk, and chocolate pieces.
Step 8: Cook over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally.
Step 9: Remove from heat and stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
Step 10: Press two-thirds of the oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
Step 11: Spread chocolate mixture over the oat mixture. Dot remaining oat mixture over the chocolate.
Step 12: Bake about 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned
Step 13: Cool on a wire rack.
Step 14: Cut into bars.
