  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate pieces
  • 1 can (14 ounce) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degree F

  • Step 2: Set aside 2 tablespoons of the butter

  • Step 3: In a large mixing bowl beat the remaining butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds.

  • Step 4: Add brown sugar and soda and beat until well mixed.

  • Step 5: Beat in eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

  • Step 6: Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer and stir in the remaining flour and the oats with a mixing spoon

  • Step 7: In a medium saucepan combine the reserved butter, condensed milk, and chocolate pieces.

  • Step 8: Cook over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 9: Remove from heat and stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

  • Step 10: Press two-thirds of the oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.

  • Step 11: Spread chocolate mixture over the oat mixture. Dot remaining oat mixture over the chocolate.

  • Step 12: Bake about 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned

  • Step 13: Cool on a wire rack.

  • Step 14: Cut into bars.
