Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease well and generously flour 2 (9 inch) cake pans.
Step 2
Sift flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cocoa into a large bowl.
Step 3
Add shortening, buttermilk and Cola. Beat for 1 1/2 minutes with electric beater at low speed.
Step 4
Add 1 whole egg and 2 egg yolks. Beat for 1 1/2 minutes.
Step 5
Pour cake batter into the 2 pans. Bake 30-35 minutes.
Step 6
Cool, and frost with Cola frosting.

Combine ingredients in top of double boiler.
Step 9
Cook over rapidly boiling water, beating until mixture stands in peaks.
Step 10
Remove from heat, and continue beating until thick enough to spread.
