Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup Coke Cola (Cola beverage)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or sour milk)
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • FROSTING
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup Coke Cola (Cola beverage)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease well and generously flour 2 (9 inch) cake pans.

  • Step 2: Sift flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cocoa into a large bowl.

  • Step 3: Add shortening, buttermilk and Cola. Beat for 1 1/2 minutes with electric beater at low speed.

  • Step 4: Add 1 whole egg and 2 egg yolks. Beat for 1 1/2 minutes.

  • Step 5: Pour cake batter into the 2 pans. Bake 30-35 minutes.

  • Step 6: Cool, and frost with Cola frosting.

  • Step 8: Combine ingredients in top of double boiler.

  • Step 9: Cook over rapidly boiling water, beating until mixture stands in peaks.

  • Step 10: Remove from heat, and continue beating until thick enough to spread.
