"Make sure to freeze the butter first for even distribution it needs to be grated evenly over the cake, finely cubed butter or melted will NOT work as well, and since the cake mixes tend to have lots of salt I recommend using only unsalted butter for this. If made as directed this is one great cake!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

Step 2

Spoon the two cans of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the box of chocolate cake mix evenly on top of the cherry filling.

Step 3

Using a hand grater grate the frozen butter all over the cake mix. Spread the pecans evenly over the butter and cake mix. Finally sprinkle the sugar over all. Bake for 30-45 minutes. (best served warm with ice cream).
