"From my old Mennonite cookbook. Hubby won't eat brownies without it, and I like it on sheet cakes. I think it would work on donuts too, although I haven't tried that."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Start about 10 minutes before your brownies or cake will come out of the oven.

Step 2

Heat butter, cocoa and buttermilk until boiling, stirring constantly. (Either stovetop or microwave)

Step 3

Pour hot mixture into mixing bowl and add powdered sugar, vanilla and salt. Beat until smooth.

Step 4

Pour over hot cake immediately after removing from oven.

Step 5

If using nuts, sprinkle over glaze immediately.
