Step by Step Method

Step 1

Grease a 12x13 inch baking dish.

Step 2

Sprinkle the cold chopped butter all over in the baking dish.

TO MAKE THE CRUST


Step 3

Combine shortening and flour in a bowl and mix well. Add salt and enough cold water to make ingredients cling together. On a flat surface, roll the dough until it is thin. Cut into strips.

FOR THE FILLING


Step 4

In a bowl, combine the sugar, salt and flour. Mix well. Add the cherries, water and food coloring. Mix well and pour over butter in pan. Top with the pastry strips.

Step 5

Bake at 350 degrees F for about 40 minutes.
