"A KC favorite! If you keep cooked seasoned ground beef cooked with onions in your freezer (like I always do) and use a pre-made frozen pie crust prep time is very quick, cause all you need to do is mix everything in one bowl which makes this a great weekday meal. Italian sausage meat may be used in place of ground beef."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2

Bake the thawed pie crust for about 8-10 minutes (crust should be just a very pale light brown and baking time will vary depending if you set the crust on a baking sheet or not).

Step 3

In a skillet cook the ground beef until no longer pink. Add in onion; cook stirring a few minutes; drain fat. Add in garlic and cook 2 minutes. Cool slightly.

Step 4

In a bowl add the eggs, whisk vigorously. Add milk then whisk again, then the mayonnaise (you will need to whisk vigorously or small mayonnaise lumps will remain). Mix in the beef mixture, mushrooms, Parmesan cheese and 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Season with seasoned salt and pepper to taste. Transfer into the partially baked crust. Place the pie plate on a baking sheet to catch any spills.

Step 5

Bake at 350 degrees F (bottom oven rack) for about 30 minutes. Remove sprinkle with remaining 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more) and allow to stand for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Tips

  • 9-inch deep-dish pie plate
  • Large baking sheet (to catch any spills)
  • Whisk

A tasty and easy dinner! I switched up the mushrooms for half of a zucchini (4 ounces)- chopped, sauteed and drained on a paper towel- as my husband doesn't eat mushrooms. Delicious!

Wow this is really a great recipe and easily allows for some tweaking, which is what I did today, this is my second time making this recipe the first time I made as written today I am making two pies one with beef and one with Jimmy Dean's sausage meat, I didn't have enough cheddar cheese to top both pies so I used mozzarella cheese, my pies are made already because this is so easy to put together, I'll heat them up later for an early weekend dinner, try this recipe, it's delicious and easy!
