"This recipe earned its title because when I make this, I feel like I am “cheating” by using a French’s meat marinade seasoning mix packet instead of fresh herbs and spices… I am also cheating by skipping the marinating step!! The meat marinade seasoning mix marinates the meat and vegetables as they cook. Depending on which mix you are using you might not need to add salt at all to this recipe. Wait until it is cooked and adjust the seasoning then. I like serving this with fresh warm buns to soak up those delicious juices."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Toss together the pork cubes and cornstarch in a large bowl and mix until well coated.

Step 3

In a Dutch oven or heavy bottom oven proof pot, melt the bacon drippings over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the coated pork cubes and brown on all sides.

Step 5

Add the vegetables, and meat marinade and stir to combine.

Step 6

Add the water and tomato vegetable cocktail and stir again to coat.

Step 7

Cover the Dutch oven or pot and place in the preheated oven; cook for 2 hours, stirring halfway through the cook time. If the liquid has reduced add some water, you want your stew covered at least 3/4 of the way.

Step 8

When cooked, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
