Step by Step Method
Step 1
Cream butter and sugar.
Step 2
Add eggs and beat well.
Step 3
In a separate large bowl, with your hands, combine RESERVED 1/2 cup flour with orange candy, dates, coconut, and pecans.
Step 4
Preheat oven to 250F.
Step 5
Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
Step 6
Combine buttermilk and baking soda.
Step 7
Add flour and buttermilk mixture alternately. Mix well.
Step 8
Stir in dredged fruit and nuts.
Step 9
Pour batter into a prepared 10-inch tube pan.
Step 10
Bake at 250F for 3 hours.
Step 11
Prepare Orange Sauce:
Step 12
Heat juice and dash of salt; add sugar and stir until sugar melts.
Step 13
Pour hot sauce over hot cake (while still in tube pan) - poke a few holes in cake so the sauce soaks into the cake.
Step 14
Cool completely before removing from pan.
Step 15
Slice thinly to serve.
