Step 1: Cream butter and sugar.
Step 2: Add eggs and beat well.
Step 3: In a separate large bowl, with your hands, combine RESERVED 1/2 cup flour with orange candy, dates, coconut, and pecans.
Step 4: Preheat oven to 250F.
Step 5: Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
Step 6: Combine buttermilk and baking soda.
Step 7: Add flour and buttermilk mixture alternately. Mix well.
Step 8: Stir in dredged fruit and nuts.
Step 9: Pour batter into a prepared 10-inch tube pan.
Step 10: Bake at 250F for 3 hours.
Step 11: Prepare Orange Sauce:
Step 12: Heat juice and dash of salt; add sugar and stir until sugar melts.
Step 13: Pour hot sauce over hot cake (while still in tube pan) - poke a few holes in cake so the sauce soaks into the cake.
Step 14: Cool completely before removing from pan.
Step 15: Slice thinly to serve.
