"We used to have these beans every Saturday night with hot dogs and brown bread... Everyone LOVED my Gram's Baked Beans, as she was an awesome cook, and everything she made was always delicious... NOTE: Cooking time does not include soaking of the beans overnight."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Clean beans of pebbles and rocks. Cover with water and soak overnight. Drain when ready to make.

Step 2

Put cleaned beans in pot. Set aside.

Step 3

Mix sugars, molasses, and mustard. Add salt and pepper. Mix into beans.

Step 4

Add enough boiling water to cover beans.

Step 5

Place salt pork down into beans. You can opt to cut it up, or leave it whole, like my gram used to do.

Step 6

Place the onion in whole.

Step 7

Bake in bean pot, at 300 for 8 hours. If not to be eaten, cool and refrigerate in the pot.

Step 8

When beans are ready to be eaten, turn oven up to 450 and place the bean pot in the oven. Bake until beans start to boil, then turn back to 200, until ready to serve.

Step 9

Note: If beans look like they are drying out, just add water as you are cooking. Also, don't allow beans to become mushy, taste frequently during last 2 hours of baking.

These beans are so delicious! Once the ingredients were in the pot all I had to do was add a little water a couple of times during baking time. Very tasty beans and so good with sausage, peppers and onions and brown bread on the side. Yummo comfort meal that hit the spot!

Excellent Boston Baked Beans! No cans with these beans. They take awhile to bake, but so worth the wait. I had to add some water several times during baking, making the juice creamy at the end of cooking time, which I loved. Oh so yummy!

Grambers

Made them in a crock in the oven then transferred them to my crock pot so they would stay warm until eating time. They are delicious beans and so full of flavor. The leftovers will be enjoyed throughout the week with hot dogs and hamburgers.

I made these beans and had homemade brown bread and relish to go with it. I also served up some fried franks and hamburgers for our meat. It was a great meal and these beans can't be beat!
