Bean & Berry Protein Shake

"My daughter is always buying expensive protein shake mixes and I thought I would try and come up with a cheaper and more natural alternative. Beans are such a great source of protein and inexpensive so I used them as a base. I played around with different ideas and came up with this. This makes a smoothie like consistency drink. You can dilute this with almond milk if you prefer it thinner. It is quite tasty and I make it quite often now."

Just made this, it's a great change from using expensive Vegan protein powders that leave your mouth dry all day, for my vegan diet I subbed agave for honey I did not have any almond milk handy so I used 1 cup of soy beverage, I also added in 2 tablespoons of flax meal and a handlful of fresh kale leaves, I used fresh pineapple that I freeze for smoothies... very good QueenBea, I'm going to continue with this every other day.

I made this for my Hubby who drinks protein shakes every morning. He also likes Asian desserts made with sweetened beans, so I figured this would be perfect. I followed it exactly, using strawberries and the almond milk. He said that it was pretty good, but he thinks he would prefer it without the berries because they masked the sweet bean flavor. I tried it, and all I could taste was sweet beans, so it wasn't for me lol. Depending on if you get the ingredients on sale, I'm not sure it is that much cheaper per serving than the protein powder we buy at Costco, but my Hubby would like it again for a change of pace. Made for the Billboard recipe tag game.
