"This is a childhood favourite of mine. I would order this every time we went to A&W as a family. It was a drive-in restaurant at that time. The servers would wheel themselves around on roller skates and bring your food tray to the car and hang the meal tray over the open widow."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Wrap one slice of bacon around each wiener and cook in a skillet over medium-high heat until bacon is crispy.

Step 2

Meanwhile, warm the buns. (I heat mine up on the grill or in the microwave but these can be warmed in the oven also)

Step 3

Wrap the cooked wiener and bacon with a slice of cheese and place on bun.

Step 4

Top each dog with 1/2 tablespoon of relish.

Step 5

Enjoy.

Yummy. It's been awhile since I had a bacon-wrapped dog. We used to get them sometimes at a bbq hut. I never had one from A&W.

This was a fun hot dog! I wasn't confident the bacon would stay wrapped around the hot dog and I was amazed when it did... I sat there, tongs at the ready, watching for disaster! But the bacon stayed wrapped around the hot dog and we ended up with a delicious lunch! I sliced my cheddar off the block and there was absolutely no way these clumsy fingers were going to be able to wrap the slice of cheese around the hot dog without having a mess, so I just put the cheese in the bun and set the hot dog on top of it. I didn't have any sweet relish, so I cut up some sweet pickle and used that. Successful lunch, so I thank you!

The hubby loved his dog for lunch today...he only wanted one because he wasn't sure he would enjoy it...he was sorry for only requesting one...I replaced the relish with diced onion...due to his liking...made for "Billboard" tag game...

I loved this hot dog recipe! I modified a few things such as used a cheese bread bun and created my own cheese sauce. And rather than wrap the hot dog with bacon I just layered it. That being said, I also tried exactly as Queenbea suggested and I liked her version more!!!

When my kids asked what I was making I said "jukebox hot-dogs", because it really did remind me of what they may have served in fast food joints in the 50's. This was a really fun way to make hot-dogs and we really enjoyed the flavor. I wish I had root beer on hand because I think it would match up great. My nephew who happened to come over devoured 4 of them. I guess he like it:) Thank you for sharing Queen Bea!!
