Step by Step Method
Step 1
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
Step 2
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
Step 3
Add the ground beef (hamburger) and Italian sausage slices to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon or spatula.
Step 4
Once the meat is browned, add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the pan. Stir to combine.
Step 5
Add the dried basil, dried oregano, dried thyme, sugar, salt, and pepper to the sauce. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
Step 6
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 7
While the sauce simmers, steam the cauliflower florets until they are tender but still slightly firm. You can do this by placing the cauliflower in a steamer basket over boiling water or by microwaving it with a little water in a covered microwave-safe dish.
Step 8
Drain the cooked cauliflower and transfer it to a serving dish.
Step 9
Pour the meat sauce over the cooked cauliflower, making sure to distribute the hamburger and sausage evenly.
Step 10
Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese (if desired) and freshly chopped basil or parsley.
