"For when you don't want to put in a lot of effort and don't want much washing up to do afterwards. I would just serve as is, but you can frost it if you want to. If you're not sure you'll like the combination of the cloves with the chocolate, try adding just a tiny bit to a small portion of the dough and see if you like the taste--or just leave it out altogether. The cloves strike some people as odd, though I myself like this combination and find it makes the chocolate (which I normally don't like) more palatable to me."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, salt and spices together into an 8-inch X 8-inch pan; sift if not using pre-sifted flour.

Step 2

Make 3 holes in the mixture.

Step 3

Pour oil in one hole, vinegar into the 2nd and vanilla in the 3rd.

Step 4

Pour 1 c water over all.

Step 5

Stir with a fork until all ingredients are blended.

Step 6

Do NOT remove batter from pan.

Step 7

Bake at 350°F 45 minutes.

I was very hesitant about making this cake as I have never seen this method before and was very worried it would stick in the pan but no problems popped out after a five minute cool down time and the end result was a rich and delicious and moist chocolate cake and so easy to make, thank you Echo Echo for posting such a delightful recipe, made for Pick Me tag game under the 48 hour rule.
