Step by Step Method

NOTE ... Mince the garlic fine (on the cutting board) and then take a pinch of salt and add to the garlic. Press and rub the knife over the garlic to make it into a paste

Step 1

Sauce ... Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and mix well. As I mentioned, start with 3 tablespoons of the brown sugar, then taste, you can always add more. Check to see if it needs any salt or any more brown sugar - it is a sweet and spicy sauce, so adjust accordingly.

Step 2

Serve ... Make sure to chill at least 30 minutes before serving.

  • For a milder heat, remove all the ribs and seeds from the jalapeno peppers.
  • For a stronger garlic flavor, use garlic paste instead of minced garlic.

  • Substitute plain yogurt for the sour cream for a lighter dip. The benefit of this substitution is that plain yogurt is lower in fat and calories than sour cream, making this dip a healthier option.
  • Substitute fresh parsley for the cilantro for a milder flavor. The benefit of this substitution is that parsley has a milder flavor than cilantro, so it won't overpower the other flavors in the dip.

Cilantro Lime Dip Replace the mint with an additional 2 tablespoons of cilantro and an additional 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Omit the paprika and brown sugar, and add a pinch of cayenne pepper to taste.
