"Normally it takes several hours of cooking to make Bolognese sauce. This version cuts the time significantly by using store bought marinara sauce. Also, instead of both ground beef and ground pork, I use only lean ground beef. The mushrooms help make up the extra volume!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large saucepan or skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2

Add carrots, celery and onions and sauté until they're just tender, about 3 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until almost browned, breaking up the meat as you stir.

Step 3

Grate garlic into pan and add sliced mushrooms,

Keep stirring until meat is no longer pink.

Step 5

Pour in the jar of store-bought marinara sauce along with salt, pepper and oregano.

Step 6

Cover pan and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens.

Step 7

Cook pasta so it will be ready when the sauce is.

Step 8

When the Bolognese sauce has reached your desired consistency, stir in the 1/2 and1/2, if using.
