"I remember eating something close to this as a kid. This is certainly a more healthier option cause you know what goes in it. Make lots, this freezes very well! You could also make this into a soup by adding in more cream or milk."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Stir in the garlic salt, tomato sauce, tomato paste and sugar, simmer for about 6 minutes.

Step 3

Add in cream and turn heat to low. Add in the butter and oregano. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes until all is combined.

Step 4

Remove from heat and stir in cheese, stirring until cheese is totally melted and combined. Stir in cooked pasta. Serve

I sent the DH to the supermarket to buy the ditalini pasta as I already had the sauce cooking, but he came home with macaroni, (go figure) so I had to use what he had bought. It came out a quite well considering the use of larger pasta, although I do think the smaller pasta would really be excellent in this recipe. Lovely rich, thick sauce which coated the pasta well, due to the fact it was a larger pasta. So easy to prepare, I can't wait to try this with the ditalini, which I will make sure to buy next time!
