"The base of the recipe was my girl friends recipe; and, she claimed it was the best ... until we tweaked it a bit. It really turned out delicious. NOW, if you are not a fan of a 'mustard/vinegar' flavor - this is probably not for you. But, please give it a try, I think you will like it. A perfect BBQ sauce for the oven or grill. Make sure to let it set overnight; or, at least a few hours to develop all the flavors before using. It will last a good week in the fridge. Also note ... Carolina Sauce is quite 'tangy'; so, don't expect this to be spicy, it isn't."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Sauce ... Simply add everything except the butter to a pot; and, bring to a light boil. Then, immediately reduce to a simmer. One note ... start out with the the least amounts of mustard, hot sauce and liquid smoke; because, as it cooks, you can always add more if needed.
Step 2
Cook ... Simmer a good 30 minutes, taste; and, adjust if needed. Add the butter; then, simmer another 10 minutes.
Step 3
Cool off the heat. Then, transfer to a mason jar, tupperware container, or anything you have. Cover and refrigerate, and let is rest overnight if possible; or, at least a few hours.
Step 4
ENJOY! ... I find that this is best on chicken and pork.
