Step 1: Sauce ... Simply add everything except the butter to a pot; and, bring to a light boil. Then, immediately reduce to a simmer. One note ... start out with the the least amounts of mustard, hot sauce and liquid smoke; because, as it cooks, you can always add more if needed.
Step 2: Cook ... Simmer a good 30 minutes, taste; and, adjust if needed. Add the butter; then, simmer another 10 minutes.
Step 3: Cool off the heat. Then, transfer to a mason jar, tupperware container, or anything you have. Cover and refrigerate, and let is rest overnight if possible; or, at least a few hours.
Step 4: ENJOY! ... I find that this is best on chicken and pork.
