Step by Step Method

Generously grease and flour two-9-inch or 3 8-inch round cake pans.

Cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until fluffy.

Blend in eggs.
Step 4
Combine (sift or whisk) cocoa, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl.

Add alternately with milk to creamed batter.
Step 6
Blend well.
Step 7
Pour into prepared pans.
Step 8
Bake at 350° F for 30 to 35 minutes for 9-inch pans and 35 to 40 minutes for 8-inch pans, or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool 10 minutes.

Remove from pans.
