"Paired with French Burnt Sugar Frosting, this is incredible. My nephew Shawn says it's was the best cake he ever had. It also makes a quick weeknight dessert just topped with powdered sugar or served with whipped cream. You can make the cake a few weeks early, brush with Simple Syrup and freeze. Then thaw that morning and frost. Adapted from MizzNezz at fooddotcom"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flower a 9 x 13 pan.
Step 2
In mixer, cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat for 1 minute.
Step 3
Whisk dry ingredients together and add to mixer alternately with buttermilk, beat for 1 minute.
Step 4
Pour into pan and bake for 35 minutes or until done. Once cake has cooled, brush with simple syrup to keep moist, if desired. (Especially if you cooked it too long.)
TO MAKE THE SIMPLE SYRUP
Step 5
Combine sugar and water in heavy saucepan, cooking over medium-high heat until they come to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir until sugar is completely dissolved, about 7 minutes. Let cool completely before using, keep in airtight container in fridge.
