"This is my "go-to" green beans that I've been serving my family for many years. It's one of my daughters favorites. It's always present when I make a roasted chicken, roast beef, or ham and I serve it at almost every Christmas dinner party I throw."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2

Wash green beans throughout and drain. Snip stem edge of each green bean and place in a 9 x 13 (3 Qt.)" casserole dish (such as pyrex).

Step 3

In a small saucepan, add water, beef bouillons, salt, garlic powder and black pepper.

Step 4

Let come to a rapid boil until bouillons are fully dissolved. Mix to distribute all seasonings.

Step 5

Pour seasoned water evenly over beans. Dot with bacon fat.

Step 6

Cover tightly with aluminum foil being careful not to leave any gaps so that steam can't escape.

Step 7

Place in oven and bake for 45 - 60 minutes or until tender.

Step 8

To serve, remove hot beans from pyrex with tongs. (The seasoned water isn't meant to serve with the beans).

NOTE # 1: The seasoned water is meant to be on the salty side, therefore taste the water. It should be salty like water from the sea. I've made this recipe so many times and don't measure the salt, therefore I don't have an exact amount so please use your best judgement. Once they are cooked with the beans the beans won't absorb the full amount of salt and they won't be as salty as you think.

NOTE # 2: The Knorr brand bouillons are larger (double the size) than most other bouillon brands. Therefore, you may need to increase the amount of bouillons if using the smaller version. On a personal level, I find that the Knorr brand boosts the flavor of dishes better than most other brands.

Very good beans and I also liked cooking them in the oven. Made as directed except used chicken bouillon and butter instead of bacon fat. Delicious beans. Thanks for sharing!

A very easy way to do an always popular vegetable, and they were so tasty that I had eaten half a dozen even before serving them :) I was generous with the garlic powder. I did use frozen fresh beans, I like to buy them in bulk, steam and freeze, they turned out beautifully. Thanks. I think this is definitely a good recipe for festive occasions when there is a lot of cooking going on, at least one dish that just looks after itself.

The beans were really lovely prepared this way. My husband loved them. Loads of flavor and they were easy to make. Thanks for sharing another great dish Nat. The bacon fat is a nice addition. Made FYC tag game.

Fabulous! This is like my mom and grandmother made, except it was made on the stove top in a Dutch oven. Great flavor and great use of the oven. I'll make this often. Thanks for sharing!

Simply delicious! Cut the recipe to 3 serves and I was not able to find fresh green beans so used frozen. I also used chicken broth (no salt added) for dietary reasons. Baked them at 375F for 30 minutes and they turned out perfectly. Wonderful flavour! Thank you for sharing ForeverMama! Made for Billboard Recipe Tag.
