Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Blend in shortening. When mixture looks like coarse corn meal, add milk.

Step 3

Turn onto floured board.

Step 4

Roll out into a sheet 8 inches square.

Step 5

Mix tuna, celery, onion, parsley, and 6 tablespoons cream of mushroom soup together. Cover dough.

Step 6

Roll up like a jelly roll.

Step 7

Cut into 8 slices. Place slices close together on a greased baking sheet, cut side down.

Step 8

Bake 30 minutes or until brown.

Step 9

Meanwhile, for the sauce, heat milk and rest of can of cream of mushroom soup.

Step 10

Stir in cheese and cook until bubbly, stirring constantly.

Step 11

Serve sauce over pinwheels.

I was pleasantly surprised by these pinwheels. They turned out delicious and oh if you like tuna, these would make great party appies. To the tuna, added more onions than noted (~1/4 cup) and also about 2 tsp. of hot sauce and some black pepper, to taste. I also doubled the pastry dough, because it would not have been enough in proportion to the tuna filling, but maybe it was because of the extra veggies. Good stuff, Dee and thank you!
