"When we were kids, it was a real treat if Mom bought ice cream. With 7 mouths to feed and only one income, we didn't get desserts very often. So when we got ice cream, she made her delicious hot fudge sauce to pour over it."
In a medium saucepan, add sugar, cocoa and salt. Whisk together. Add milk and Karo syrup. While stirring constantly, boil to 222° to 224° on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla and stir in till butter melts.
Serve immediately over a bowl of ice cream.
Store in refrigerator. Warm in microwave to reheat. Do not bring it to boiling.
