"I know there are a ton of recipes for spaghetti sauce. This is what Mom used to call "Garden Spaghetti." And, this was by far Dad's favorite. The longer it simmers, the better it gets. It is just a nice change from the basic pasta sauce."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Meat ... In a large pot, saute ALL the vegetables in a little olive oil 3-4 minutes. Then add in the beef and turkey and continue to cook on medium heat until the meat is no longer pink.

Step 2

Sauce ... Then, add in the tomato paste scraping up any bits off the bottom of the pan and then the wine and continue to cook a couple of minutes, again scraping any bits off the bottom. Add in the water, broth, tomato puree and stewed tomatoes and mix well. Next, add all the seasonings except the parsley, basil, and red wine vinegar. They are added at the end of cooking. Bring to a light boil and then reduce to a simmer. Simmer at least 1 hour, 2-3 hours is even better. I often make this a day ahead.

Step 3

Serve ... Right before serving, add the parsley, basil and red wine vinegar. ENJOY over your favorite pasta; and of course, garnish with parmesan cheese.
