"Necessity is not the mother of invention - high prices are!!! At least, that's the case here in Costa Rica. Needed some margarita mix for a cupcake recipe, but only needed one cup. This was an easy fix - and it's actually quite tasty! Unlike commercially prepared margarita mix, this has no fake ingredients or preservatives, so keep it refrigerated! Some people like to avoid refined sugar, but you can use raw sugar - though it changes the taste. Agave syrup, same thing, changes the taste and has a higher glycemic index. Enjoy!"

Step 1

Place water and sugar in a heavy bottomed saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Let it simmer for three minutes and remove from heat. Let cool to room temp.

Step 2

Add lemon and lime juices, stirring to combine. Pour into a glass bottle and keep refrigerated.

Makes 2 cups mix (16 oz).Serving size is 3 oz for a regular margarita. Simple recipe is 1.5 oz tequila, 1/2 oz triple sec, 2 oz margarita mix, juice of one fresh lime, shaken with ice or blended.
