Step by Step Method

Step 1

Combine shortening and boiling water. Stir in milk and lemon flavoring.

Step 2

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir yeast mixture into shortening mixture.

Step 3

When well blended add remaining ingredients.

Step 4

Add just enough flour to knead well.

Step 5

Knead on floured board for about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Let rest 10 minutes.

Step 7

Roll out 1/4 inch thick.

Step 8

Cut into strips 1" by 6" cover.

Step 9

Let rise 1 hour.

Step 10

Heat deep fat fryer to 375°F.

Step 11

Slip raised side in fat first.

Step 12

When browned, turn. This gives flat side time to raise.
