Step 1: Combine shortening and boiling water. Stir in milk and lemon flavoring.
Step 2: Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir yeast mixture into shortening mixture.
Step 3: When well blended add remaining ingredients.
Step 4: Add just enough flour to knead well.
Step 5: Knead on floured board for about 5 minutes.
Step 6: Let rest 10 minutes.
Step 7: Roll out 1/4 inch thick.
Step 8: Cut into strips 1" by 6" cover.
Step 9: Let rise 1 hour.
Step 10: Heat deep fat fryer to 375°F.
Step 11: Slip raised side in fat first.
Step 12: When browned, turn. This gives flat side time to raise.
