Step by Step Method

Step 1

Bring cream and brown sugar to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.

Step 2

Make a thickening of flour, milk, and egg yolks.

Step 3

Add to sugar mixture, tempering first before you add it; add a little of hot mixture and stir like crazy.

Step 4

Let boil again for 1 minute.

Step 5

Add vanilla and salt.

Step 6

Pour into baked pie shell.

Step 7

Cool.

Step 8

Spread stiffly beaten egg whites on top.

Step 9

Bake in 450 degree Fahrenheit oven until whites are cooked, about 5 minutes.
