Step by Step Method

Step 1

Shape beef into 4 flat patties and place each in the centre of a piece of foil.

Step 2

Sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder, if using.

Step 3

Peel onion, cut into 4 thick slices and place on top of each patty.

Step 4

Cut potato into 1/4 inch thick slices and place on top of onion.

Step 5

Spread with ketchup or sauce.

Step 6

Peel carrots and cut into strips.

Step 7

Place on top of potato slices.

Step 8

Sprinkle with a bit more salt and pepper.

Step 9

Dot with butter.

Step 10

Bring sides of foil up over meat and vegetables and enclose in packets.

Step 11

Place on baking sheet and bake for 60 to 75 minutes in 375F oven.

We enjoyed these easy-to-make packets. Instead of adding the ketchup, we let people add what they wanted at the table -- some wanted the ketchup while others chose the barbecue sauce. Thanks for sharing!

I scaled back for one serving and the only thing I changed was to use onion that I had already finely sliced for a another recipe and I used barbecue sauce otherwise made as per recipe and thoroughly enjoyed. Made for Alphabet Tag Game at FF&F.
