Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine lukewarm water and 5 ml honey. Add yeast and let stand 10 minutes.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine milk powder and hot water. Add shortening, salt, and reaming honey. Stir until dissolved and add cold water.

Step 3

Stir in yeast mixture with a fork and add to milk mixture.

Step 4

Add half the flour and beat with a spoon until smooth. Add remaining flour, gradually mixing thoroughly using just enough flour to prevent stickiness.

Step 5

When dough is stiff, turn out on to a floured board and knead until smooth and satiny, about 10 minutes.

Step 6

Shape into smooth ball and place in a well greased bowl.

Step 7

Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled. Punch dough down.

Step 8

Let rise again, when doubled divide into 4 equal portions.

Step 9

Let rise 10 minutes.

Step 10

Shape into loaves and place in 4 loaf pans.

Step 11

Let rise until doubled.

Step 12

Bake in 400F oven for about 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350F and bake 25-30 minutes until loaves sound hollow when tapped.

Hi! This is my first time rating a recipe at this site. All I can say is THANK YOU!!!! Well, I guess I have alittle more to say than that. I have had such terrible sucess at making really good making any kind of wheat bread, this one is moist, light and fluffy and the perfect flavor. I did have to make some minor changes due to the ingredients that I had on hand but it still turned out great. After it cooled, we dove in. PERFECTION! My husband and I just ate chicken sandwiches with it. He told me that I was finally catching on to baking bread. ***** stars and thank you, I feel like a pro baker!
