Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water.
Step 2
Add Caraway seed, nutmeg, sage.
Step 3
Add shortening, sugar, salt and 2 cups flour, mix well.
Step 4
Add remaining flour and mix till smooth.
Step 5
Cover and let rise until double, roughly 30 min.
Step 6
Stir down batter and spread evenly in a greased loaf pan, smoothing out top by patting with floured hands.
Step 7
Cover and let rise till double, about 40 min.
Step 8
Heat oven to 375.
Step 9
Bake 45 min or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 10
Brush top with melted butter.
