"This is from a very old community cookbook. I had to investigate the chocolate wafers. I believe I found the correct item. They were very popular during this time for ice box cakes. Yesterday was the anniversary of another of my 29th birthdays! I'm posting this for You Want What 2020 recipe game. NOTE: 12 hour chill time is not included in cook time. ... I just found out that these wafers were discontinued recently. I read an article that said these are good substitutes: Oreo Thins or Dewey's Bakery Brownie Crisp Cookies"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a saucepan, add together the crushed peppermint candy and the milk. Heat on low until the candy is melted.

Step 2

Mix the unflavored gelatin in the cold water. Add it to the saucepan. Let it all chill until it's part way set or sticky.

Step 3

Whip the cream and fold it in to the mixture.

Step 4

Line the bottom of a 9 X 9 pan with the chocolate wafers. Add half the mixture on top. Add one more layer of wafers. Pour the last of the mixture on top. Crumble chocolate wafers over the top of everything.

Step 5

Chill for at least 12 hours.
