Step by Step Method

Step 1

Line a small jelly-roll pan or dinner plate with aluminum foil. Coat with cooking spray.

Step 2

Cut each whole shrimp into fourths.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, stir together egg, mayonnaise, garlic lemon juice, seasoned salt and ground red pepper. Stir in the celery, green onion and parsley. Fold in the shrimp and cracker crumbs (the mixture will be thick).

Step 4

Shape the mixture into 4 patties each 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick. Place the patties on the prepared pan.

Step 5

Cover with foil and freeze for 6 to 24 hours.

Step 6

Coat cold cooking grate of grill with cooking spray, and place on grill. Light charcoal grill or preheat gas grill to 350°F-450°F (medium-high).

Step 7

Grill the burgers, covered with the grill lid, for 4 to 5 minutes or until the burgers lift easily from the cooking grate using a large spatula. Turn the burgers, and grill for 4 to 5 minutes or until the shrimp turn pink and the burgers are cooked through and lightly crisp.

Step 8

Grill the buns, cut sides down, for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly toasted.

Step 9

Serve the shrimp burgers on the buns with tartar sauce and lettuce leaves.

Note: For an extra tang of flavor, grill lemon halves alongside the shrimp burgers, and squeeze a generous amount of lemon juice on each burger before topping it with tartar sauce

  • For the raw shrimp, try to find medium-sized shrimp, as they are the best size for this recipe.
  • For the crackers, try to find cornmeal crackers, as they will add a nice crunch to the burgers.

  • Replace the crackers with oatmeal for a more nutritious option. Oatmeal is a whole grain that is high in fiber and protein, making it a great alternative to crackers. The oatmeal will also add a nutty flavor to the burgers.
  • Replace the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a healthier option. Greek yogurt is a great source of protein and is lower in fat than mayonnaise. It will also add a creamy texture to the burgers.

Cajun Shrimp Burgers Replace the seasoned salt with Cajun seasoning, and add 1 teaspoon of hot sauce to the shrimp mixture. Grill as directed.

We loved everything about these burgers. They were easy to make and superb in flavor. I just used the stovetop to make them cause it's too damn cold to grill out! Can't wait to make these when I can gather with my friends again. They are going to love em! I will be experimenting with different sauces, and it's going to be fun!

Fun facts:

The origin of the shrimp burger can be traced back to the 1930s, when a seafood restaurant in California began serving it as a specialty item. The restaurant, called the Brown Derby, was frequented by celebrities such as Clark Gable and Bette Davis.

The Kaiser roll, which is used in this recipe, was originally created by a German baker named Adolf Ditsch in the late 19th century. He named the roll after the then-Emperor of Austria, Franz Joseph I.
