"This makes a huge sheetful of wonderful brownies, or better yet, a cross between a brownie and a cake. These will be enough to bring to a gathering and everyone will love them."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large bowl combine flour and sugar.

Step 2

In a large saucepan combine butter, shortening, cocoa, and coffee; mix well and heat to boiling.

Step 3

Pour into the flour and sugar mixture; mix well.

Step 4

Add buttermilk, soda, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.

Step 5

Pour into a welll-greased 11x17 1/2 cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or till done; while they bake, make the frosting.

Step 6

FROSTING: In a large saucepan combine the butter, cocoa, and milk; heat to boiling and mix well; then add the confectioners sugar and vanilla; mix well.

Step 7

Pour warm frosting over the brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven; cool and cut into 48 bars.

Love these so much! More cake-like than chewy brownie, but that's fine with us because the flavor is there! Yummm!

My son loves brownies and I am always looking for new ones to try. These were great and he told me they are delicious. They are more cake like brownies rather than chewy, but they tasted so good with the frosting. I sprinkled crushed pecans on top of the frosting too!
