Step by Step Method

Step 1

Lay the bacon slices out flat in a single layer on a large baking sheet and place another baking sheet on top which fits inside the main one to keep the slices flat and bake in a 220C oven until the bacon is sizzling.

Step 2

Remove the top tray and brush the bacon with the maple syrup and return to the oven and cook until golden.

Step 3

For the apples, melt the butter and sugar in a wide based pan over a moderate heat and when it has melted add the apple pieces and when they are golden brown on one side turn over and repeat.

Step 4

For the French toast cut out 12cm circles or thereabout from the bread.

Step 5

If you don't have cutters use a bowl as a template.

Step 6

Lightly beat the eggs and to them add the cream, sugar and vanilla in a shallow dish and soak the bread in this for at least 10 minutes, turning occasionally.

Step 7

Heat a wide based pan to moderate and add the butter and then when melted, the soggy bread and cook until golden brown, turn and cook the other side.

Step 8

To serve, place the bread on plates, followed by slices of the apple and then the bacon slices and drizzle over the remaining sauce from the apples.

  • When selecting bacon for this recipe, choose thick-cut bacon for the best results.
  • When selecting apples for this recipe, choose sweet apples such as Honeycrisp or Gala for the best results.

  • Substitute the bacon with tempeh: Tempeh is a great alternative to bacon as it has a similar texture and is high in protein. It also has a more subtle flavor, which will allow the other ingredients to shine. Plus, it's a healthier option.
  • Substitute the cream with coconut cream: Coconut cream is a great vegan-friendly alternative to cream as it has a similar texture and flavor. It also adds a hint of sweetness to the dish, which will pair nicely with the other ingredients.

Cinnamon French Toast Beat the eggs and cream together and add the sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract and soak the bread for at least 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Heat a wide based pan to moderate and add the butter and then when melted, the soggy bread and cook until golden brown, turn and cook the other side. To serve, place the bread on plates, followed by slices of the apple and then the bacon slices, sprinkle with cinnamon and drizzle over the remaining sauce from the apples.

Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan: This is the perfect side dish to accompany French Toast with Caramelised Apple & Maple Syrup Bacon. The roasted asparagus is lightly seasoned with Parmesan and a hint of garlic, providing a delicious contrast to the sweet and savory flavors of the French Toast. The Parmesan adds a nutty flavor and the roasted asparagus is a great source of fiber and vitamins.

Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary: Roasted potatoes are a classic side dish that pairs perfectly with French Toast with Caramelised Apple & Maple Syrup Bacon. The potatoes are seasoned with rosemary and a hint of garlic, providing a savory flavor that complements the sweetness of the French Toast. The rosemary adds a subtle, herbal flavor and the potatoes are a great source of carbohydrates and fiber.

Another great Sunday Brunch. Pat it seems I am joining you nearly every Sunday for Brunch and enjoying every bite of your recipes. I didn't cut them in circles but otherwise followed the recipe.I cut back on the bacon but had 3 slices of French Toast_ it was so good. The apples give it that special, extra, flavour boost. This will be made again but I will cut my serving back to 2 slices.
